At Heritage Reservation, we are committed to providing our Scouts with the best possible environment to grow, learn, and develop the life skills that Scouting encourages. This includes creating state-of-the-art facilities that promote safety, sportsmanship, and confidence through shooting sports programs. Building on the success of our previous shooting sports ranges, we are thrilled to announce the completion of a new archery range in our shooting sports area, made possible by a generous donation from the Edith L. Trees Charitable Trust.
The new archery range is designed to enhance the overall shooting sports experience for our Scouts. This project is a significant step forward, adding yet another world-class facility to our growing campus. The archery shelter will provide a safe and comfortable space for Scouts to learn and practice archery.
One of the most exciting features of the new archery range is its focus on accessibility. To ensure that the facility is inclusive, we’ve added a handicap accessible ramp that leads up to the shelter. This will allow everyone, regardless of physical ability, to enjoy the full range of activities offered at Heritage Reservation. To further support accessibility, we’ve also included a wheelchair charging station, making it easier for individuals with mobility challenges to participate in and enjoy the programs.
To bring the archery range and the entire shooting sports area to life, we’ve undergone significant upgrades to our infrastructure. This included the excavation of existing high-voltage electric lines to allow for the installation of a new transformer by the power company. Once the transformer was in place, our team worked alongside contractors, volunteers, to install a new power distribution panel and run wiring throughout the shooting sports area. This upgrade ensures that the area will have the electricity needed for future program growth and opens the possibility for programs to run during the evening when the late summer and fall sun sets a little earlier.
The addition of electricity opens new opportunities for both safety and immersion in our programs. It will provide climate control for sensitive equipment like rifles, bows, and sights, ensuring they are stored properly. Furthermore, it will allow us to offer a more immersive classroom experience, with the ability to use A/V equipment for instructional purposes. This world-class shooting sports facility is designed to instill not only respect and safety for firearms but also personal confidence and sportsmanship in every Scout who walks through our gates. With this archery range and the expanded facilities, we’re excited to continue our mission of developing tomorrow’s leaders today.
