Scouting at Heritage

Scouting at Heritage

Heritage Reservation, nestled in the scenic Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, offers Scouts and their units an exceptional opportunity to experience the great outdoors while benefiting from a diverse and well-equipped camp setting. Spanning approximately 2,000 acres, this premier Scouting America Reservation has been carefully designed to offer something for everyone, from younger Scouts to more advanced participants seeking high-adventure experiences. It is one of the largest and most well-established Scouting America camps in the Country, providing an array of activities for all ages.

One of the main draws to Heritage Reservation is its stunning 270-acre Lake Courage, which serves as the centerpiece for many water-based activities like boating, fishing, sailing, and water-skiing. Unlike other Scouting camps, the lake is exclusive to campers, offering a unique, uninterrupted experience for all water sports enthusiasts. The lake is complemented by a variety of recreational opportunities such as hiking along the Courage Trail, a five-mile trek around the lake that showcases the natural beauty of the area. The surrounding forests provide an ideal environment for traditional Scouting activities, including merit badge classes, leadership training, and wilderness survival skills. Heritage Reservation is also home to several specialized camps that cater to different age groups and Scouting levels. Camp Liberty offers Scouts a traditional patrol cooking experience, while Camp Freedom operates with a Dining Hall to serve meals. The high-adventure program at Eagle Base is another exciting option for older Scouts and Venturers, providing physically demanding, action-packed activities such as the ATV Adventure Program. Whether your unit is looking for a classic Scout camp experience or something more challenging, Heritage Reservation provides a rich, flexible environment that supports a wide range of Scouting activities.

Heritage Reservation offers the convenience of fully equipped campsites, modern facilities, and a dedicated staff to ensure that your unit’s stay is both enjoyable and safe. With a capacity to accommodate 1,200 campers and a strong commitment to inclusion, Heritage Reservation fosters an environment where youth can learn important life skills while forging lasting memories. Units are encouraged to engage in service projects and contribute to the ongoing upkeep of the camp, ensuring that each visit helps improve the camp for future generations.

Heritage Reservation’s location also provides easy access to local attractions like Laurel Caverns and Ohiopyle State Park, making it an ideal destination for both a fun-filled and enriching Scouting experience. Whether you are attending for a weekend or a full week, the camp promises to deliver a well-rounded experience that will leave your Scouts inspired and empowered .
