Sleeping

Sleeping

At Heritage Reservation, there are a variety of sleeping accommodations to suit different needs and preferences:

Scouts BSA

  1. Canvas Wall Tents: The primary sleeping arrangement for all Scouts BSA summer resident campers. These tents come with wooden floorboards, ensuring campers stay off the ground, and they are equipped with either metal or canvas cots, depending on the campsite. These tents are standard in both Camp Liberty and Camp Freedom.
  2. Campsite Flexibility: Units that wish to customize their sleeping arrangements have the option to bring their own tents or hammocks. Heritage Reservation offers ample space around the campsites, allowing units to set up additional tents following the Leave No Trace guidelines.
  3. Shared Campsite Equipment: Each campsite is furnished with necessary equipment, including dining flies, picnic tables, and fire rings. For units using patrol cooking methods, Camp Liberty provides patrol boxes with cooking equipment, though units may bring supplemental gear if needed or preferred.

These accommodations are designed to ensure that Scouts and leaders have a comfortable and functional space to rest while enjoying the full camp experience.

Cub Scouts

  1. Bring your own: Our Cub Scout Camp, Camp Independence, operates on a bring your own tent system. We find that our younger, less experienced, campers are more comfortable with the equipment that they’re accustomed to using with mom, dad, or their Pack. We do have a limited inventory of nylon dome tents (think classic Coleman tent) that families are welcome to borrow on a first come basis.
  2. Shared Campsite Equipment: Each campsite is furnished with picnic tables and typically 2 or more fire rings.

Conference Center

  1. Potomac Homes: within the Conference Center offer a more private and comfortable sleeping option. These traditional split-level homes feature three private bedrooms, each furnished with twin or twin XL bunk beds to accommodate multiple campers. In addition to the private bedrooms, the Potomac homes also include larger dorm-style rooms located in the basement. These rooms are furnished with bunk beds, designed to house more campers in a shared space. The upstairs of the Potomac Homes includes a full tub bathroom, while the downstairs offers a full shower bathroom for convenience, ensuring both comfort and accessibility for campers.
  2. Pathfinder Lodge: offers additional sleeping accommodations, designed to house guests units in a larger, communal setting. It contains six bedrooms, each equipped with two sets of bunk beds. This arrangement allows for efficient use of space while maintaining comfort for campers. Nearby, the building is outfitted with dorm-style showers located down the hall, providing easy access for all campers.
