Our History

Heritage Reservation, owned by the Laurel Highlands Council, is not just a Scout camp; it's a shared legacy shaped by the individuals who have camped there. Established in 1980, the camp arose from the dreams of Council leaders who envisioned creating an unparalleled Scout experience in southwestern Pennsylvania. At the time of construction, over $8 million in initial investments, and an additional $10 million in subsequent improvements, were generously provided by the community, including Scout troops, families, businesses, and charitable foundations. The name "Heritage" reflects more than a physical place; it embodies the passing down of values and pride from one generation to the next. The camp's historic surroundings, once touched by George Washington, serve as a living reminder of the region's significance in America's journey towards liberty and independence. The camp's emblem, featuring a triangle, and acorn symbolize the tricorn hat of colonial times, and the growth from small beginnings. As campers enjoy the facilities, they contribute to the ongoing heritage, perpetuating the legacy of responsible stewardship and appreciation for the past.
